Getting started

One account, four tools — the five-minute setup.

Layer8 is one platform with four linked tools: NetMapr (network maps), AssetTrakr (asset inventory), NoteTakr (runbooks and docs), and CryptKeepr (encrypted credentials). One login, one dashboard, and every object can link to the others.

First five minutes

  1. Sign up — free during early access, no credit card.
  2. Create your first map in NetMapr — drag devices onto the canvas, draw connections.
  3. Add your assets in AssetTrakr — one at a time, or import a CSV in bulk (Settings → Import & Export).
  4. Write a runbook in NoteTakr and link it to the device it documents.
  5. Store the credentials for that device in CryptKeepr, linked to the same asset.

That last part is the point: when something breaks at 2am, the map shows you what it is, the asset record shows you where it is, the runbook tells you what to do, and the credential gets you in — without leaving the page you're on.

Navigating

  • The rail on the left switches between the dashboard and the four apps (Alt+0 for the dashboard, Alt+1–Alt+4 for the apps).
  • ⌘K / Ctrl+K searches everything, everywhere.
  • The dashboard shows open items that need a human — offline assets, expiring warranties, credentials about to expire — each one a click from the thing that needs fixing.

Your data is yours

Settings → Import & Export gives you a one-click export of everything you own as JSON, and a single import button that auto-detects files from other tools (Bitwarden, LastPass, KeePass, Snipe-IT-style CSVs, and plain Markdown).
